Pitch Contests

For the first time EVER I’ll be participating in a Twitter pitch contest. I’m both nervous and excited.

For those who don’t know, a Twitter pitch contest is basically an opportunity for unagented writers to potentially find a literary agent or an editor who will be interested in their finished (and polished) unpublished manuscript.

The pitch “party” I’ll be taking part in, #PitMad, allows writers to send up to three pitches per manuscript in the span of 12 hours on the day of the event. Basically, if an agent or editor is interested in your pitch, they’ll like/favor your tweet, which will allow you to send them a query. Since I only have one completed manuscript, I will be creating three different pitches about my historical fantasy novel. And I’ll be sharing about my experience on here once the contests ends.

Maybe I’ll make a video…maybe.

The reason why I want to participate in this contest is mostly so it will motivate me to start querying agents. Now that my manuscript is *fingers crossed* finished, I need a little push, and I believe this might be a good way for me to get out of my comfort zone and just do it.

However, from what I’ve researched and the experiences I’ve seen on #authortube, the chances an agent has on actually reading your pitch are slim. There are thousands and thousands of pitches that are tweeted during the day, so I’m not getting my hopes up. Still, I think it’ll be a good opportunity for me to do something different.
