Happy National Book Lovers Day!

Today is #nationalbookloversday and I felt the urge to write a blog in honor of such a beautiful celebration. There are uncountable reasons why we #bibliophiles love books so much. And here are five of mine:

1). Books are the best teachers.

Through books, I’ve learned about subjects I would’ve never learned otherwise (mostly science and medicine-related subjects). They’ve also taught me some of the most valuable life lessons I’ve ever received.

2). Books are the best companions:

I spent most of my teenage and college (and grad school) years focused on school and my career. I rarely went out and socialized, so books became my best friends and most trusted confidants; they still are.

3). Books are the cheapest way of traveling.

Whether you’re going to a real location, to Narnia, Velaris, or any other fictional world, books allow us the opportunity to embark on all types of journeys. They also take us on profound paths of finding ourselves. And those, in my opinion, are the best books.  (The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho is a favorite that does exactly that).

4). Books taught me to embrace my diversity.

For those of you who don’t know, English is not my native language, Spanish is. And although I’ve spent the majority of my life living in the US, immersing myself into a new culture and language was not easy. For years, books helped me find my identity by showing me there is beauty in diversity.

5). Books smell amazing.

Unlike audiobooks or e-books, physical books have the special gift of smell. There is truly nothing that compares to the smell of a book, regardless if it’s old, new, or in-between.

There are so many other reasons why I love books, but I thought I’d share just a few of them with you all. What about you? Why do you love books?
